António Guterres

António Guterres is Secretary-General of the United Nations. Before taking office in 2017, he served as prime minister of Portugal and as UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Secretary-General works across diplomacy, humanitarian response and long-term global challenges, often where agreement among governments is difficult. His public role draws attention to the limits and possibilities of international cooperation, from conflict prevention to climate action and the protection of displaced people.
