Ibrahim Traoré

Ibrahim Traoré is the military leader of Burkina Faso, having taken power in a 2022 coup. His rule is part of a period of major political and security upheaval in the Sahel, where armed conflict and displacement have affected many communities.

Any assessment of his leadership requires attention to those conditions as well as to questions of democratic accountability and civilian protection. This profile identifies his public role; it does not imply endorsement of military rule or of claims made by his government.
